Sewers are laid for a long term and hence may get covered by roads, lawns,
gardens and driveways. Any damage to such system over the years leads to a dilemma of the efficient way to replace
the line, with minimum damage to the overlaid surface. Today a large number of maintenance contractors offer
trench less sewer line replacement in San Francisco. There are basically two methods under this
technology.
Magic Plumbing uses the Tric Trenchless Plumbing -No
Dig system, which works by digging two holes, one where the sewer exits the
building and the other at either the property line or in the street where it connects to the mainline. A steel
cable is then threaded through the old sewer pipe and a hardened steel bursting head is attached to one end of
the cable. The new polyethylene pipe is then attached to the back of the bursting head. At the other end the
TRIC hydraulic system is set up which pulls the cable. Once the system has been set up and turned on the
operator uses a remote control to "pull" the cable with the head and pipe attached down into the hole at the
side of the house. It then pulls the new HDPE pipe through the old pipe breaking it and pushing the pieces out
into the surrounding soil. The new pipe gets pulled all the way to the exit hole where the connections are
made, it is inspected and then the holes filled in.
Pipe bursting method: This is one of the most commonly used methods in trench less sewer
line replacement in San Francisco. The ease with which the replacement is made has endeared more
clients to adopt this method. Digging up a damaged sewer line not only alters the landscape drastically, but
spreads a lot waste around the area. Trench less technology ensures a clean and quick replacement, without any
changes to the surroundings. During the procedure the length of damaged pipe is identified. Two access holes are
dug at the two points on either side of the
break - an insertion and retrieval pit. The head of a bursting
head is introduced into the insertion pit. A heavy cable is pushed through the pipe from the retrieval pit. A
hydraulic ram attached to the cable and pulls the bursting head through the old pipe. A new
polyethylene pipe is pulled through the previous one, while the latter is crushed to pieces. This ensures a
completely new pipe is laid, which has more durability. The method helps is extremely useful for homes where
digging trenches is not at all possible, and pipes have to be laid without damaging the existing
infrastructure.

Pipe relining: This method
involves using the older pipe as a base for a thin coat of lining material, that enables free flow of water.
Often pipe relining is done through a building's
clean-out access and requires little digging. The process may be used to repair root-damaged pipes,
close cracks, fill in corroded pipes and stop leaks at underground joints. The lining used consists of durable
material like epoxy resin that is molded similar to the inner shape of the underground pipeline. Even in parts
where pipes are completely corroded, the lining is formed along the hollow in the soil, thus effectively replacing
the earlier pipe.
The ability for the equipment to pull pipes through several 100s of feet
serves as an advantage in construction and maintenance of communication and sewer lines across highways. The
agencies assure a smooth and error-free laying of pipes with no hindrance to traffic. The use of HDPE pipes ensure
that earth movements and action of chemicals do not corrode or break the pipe. Such possibility for a long-term
durable solution makes it easier to lines even close to communication, internet and power cables that otherwise may
seem vulnerable. Besides, there has been an increased use of common conduits like sewers as a passage for laying
communication cables. It also makes it quite easier to construct toilets and bathrooms nearer to lawns or boundary
walls and connect them to sewers across such “barriers”. A combination of technologies like trench less sewer and
camera assisted sewer inspection are used to install, repair and maintain sewer lines. Pipe bursting provides an
option for the home owner to lay a pipe of greater diameter than earlier used. This also helps in restricting
obstructions like growth of tree roots, without having to dig a trench. San Francisco plumbers offer a combination
of technologies to relay and repair sewer lines.
Trenchless Sewer Line
No Dig Replacement How much does it cost?
It all depends on the location. Depending on the hardscape (What's above the pipe being replaced), the price might
range between $100 and $200 per foot.
Is it cheaper than just having my sewer line dug up and
replaced? Usually. Much of the cost of a sewer replacement job is in the restoration of the
property that had been dug up. The TRIC trenchless system helps greatly in minimizing restoration costs and the
savings can be passed down to you.

How long does it
take?
The actual "pulling" or bursting of the old pipe usually takes less than one hour but sometimes a little longer.
The entire job from preparation of the holes to making the final connections is often done in a few
days.
What type of pipe do
you use? Our trenchless system primarily uses HDPE or High Density
Polyethylene Pipe as the replacement pipe. This pipe is superior to other traditional pipe such as clay, cast
iron or pvc plastic piping. HDPE pipe is inherently corrosion resistant, leak tight because the pipe is fused or
melted together where the joint is stronger than any other part of the pipe, and highly flexible. For trenchless
installation it is the pipe of choice.
What is the
difference between this process and just having my sewer replaced with traditional
methods? The biggest difference is that the trenchless sewer
installation system minimizes destruction to your landscaping and hard surface areas such as driveways and
concrete. By only digging two small access holes the process preserves what otherwise would have to be dug up
and replaced by traditional methods of pipe replacement.
How long does the new
HDPE pipe last? HDPE pipe has an estimated life of well over two hundred
years.

What is the warranty
on a trenchless sewer replacement done this way with HDPE pipe?
We guarantee the pipe will not fail in your life time.
