Magic Plumbing uses the Tric Trenchless Plumbing -No
DigSewer pipe replacement
system, which works by digging two holes, one where the sewer
exits the building and the other at either the property line or in the street where it connects to the
mainline. A steel cable is then threaded through the old sewer pipe and a hardened steel bursting head is
attached to one end of the cable. The new polyethylene pipe is then attached to the back of the bursting head.
At the other end the TRIC hydraulic system is set up which pulls the cable. Once the system has been set up
and turned on the operator uses a remote control to "pull" the cable with the head and pipe attached down into
the hole at the side of the house. It then pulls the new HDPE pipe through the old pipe breaking it and
pushing the pieces out into the surrounding soil. The new pipe gets pulled all the way to the exit hole where
the connections are made, it is inspected and then the holes filled in.
Most of the
countless pipes beneath the San Francisco homes and streets are old. Though made from highly durable

Typically you may
notice the damage to sewer pipes when you find the toilets and drains, draining slowly. It may be often caused if
there is a blockage of any sort in the pipes that take the sewer waste to the main sewer lines and then further to
the one built for the entire city. The technician from the company has to carry out extensive scrutiny of causes of
the problem with sewer line. Now a days video camera attached to optic fiber cables are used as you can easily find
the reason causing slow functioning of the sewer pipes. There are chances that the pipers are broken
or cracked or may have even collapsed due to the shifting soil, frozen soil etc. Sometimes blockages are caused due
to the grease buildup caused due to the washing down of such items into the pipes. There may even be some foreign
objects like soil or broken pipes that may be causing such a problem. Often root infiltration into the sewer pipes
causes damage. In all such scenarios you may have to replace the sewer pipe.
The traditional method can be used that involves replacement
using the open cut or trench method to reach to the damaged portion of the pipe. A backhoe may be typically used to
open and refill the trench area. This may cause considerable damage around the excavation hole, your driveway,
roadway etc. In crowded areas it may even cause some traffic congestion. However to overcome these problems the
trenchless method bursting pipe is used.
The trenchless
system requires digging of only two holes one where the sewer exits the building and other where it joins the sewer
line or the main street where it connects the mainline. A steel cable is then threaded through the old
sewer pipe and a steel bursting head is attached to one end of the cable. A new polyethylene pipe is attached to
the back of the bursting head. A hydraulic system is then set up to pull the cable. The system is turned
on and the operators use a remote control to pull the cable with the head and pipe attached to
it. The bursting head breaks the old pipe into pieces and pushes it into the surrounding soil and the new pipe gets
pulled all the way to the exit hole replacing the old one. At the exit hole it is inspected and holes are filled
in. The entire system may seem expensive as compared to the traditional method but the cost is offset by the life
of the pipe that is replaced. Moreover just restoring the property damaged with the traditional method may cost you
as much while trenchless system minimizes this cost. Usually the process of pulling the pipe may be done in about
an hour or a bit longer. The entire process of preparing the holes and making connection may take a day or
sometimes a bit more.
