Dealing with Clogged Drains
A clogged drain is probably the last thing that you want to
find in your kitchen sink or even your bathtub for that matter
(which is surely a turn off). Getting up after a quite and
soothing bath from the bathtub and reaching out for the plug in
order to drain the water, but wait a minute, it has already
been pulled out. This is where you realize that there is a
clogged drain in your bathtub. A blocked drainage system can be
really aggravating but the solution to this problem is a simple
remedy.
Learning how to clean a clogged drain could be
really beneficial in the long run since this is like the
most common encountered plumbing problem. The first thing
that you could in such a situation is to carefully take
out the drain stopper. You are bound to find some dirt on
this stopper itself. Clean it thoroughly and make sure
that there aren’t any particles stuck in the stopper.
That’s because if there is some kind of debris still left
in there, that itself could be the cause of the clogged
drain. If you face this problem with regards to the
kitchen sink, all you have to do is simply clean the
strainer.
The next thing that you could do is use a home preparation
of baking soda, vinegar and some hot water. All you have to do
is just pour this solution into the drain and it will
automatically dissolve the clogged debris which was the cause
of the problem in the first place. If not a home made
preparation, there are always the chemical solutions that are
available in the market. You’ve got solutions like Liquid-Plumr
and Drano which are nothing but specifically designed solutions
designed particularly to get rid of the dirt accumulated in the
drain pipes. But it is strongly advisable to try out some other
options before resorting to the chemical option considering
their environmental impact.
If you’re still finding it rather difficult to clean the
clogged drains, perhaps it’s time to bring in the big guns. One
of the most commonly used equipments in this respect would be
the plunger. In order to bring out more suction force to the
plunger, it is advisable that you apply some petroleum jelly on
the suction cap to get a greater effect. Then there is drain
snake that you can use in case the clog is too deep for any
other methods to be tried upon. You can use this drain snake to
explore areas of the drainage pipe in order to find out the
problem. Once you feel the blockage, simply break the clog by
hooking and loosening it.
If you still find that the clog is too resilient for you to
do anything about it, it is high time that you call in the
professionals which in this case would obviously mean a
plumber. So now that you have an idea as to what you can do in
case of a clogged drain, you can say goodbye to the blocked
kitchen sinks and the bathrooms.
